RAMON RIVAS

is a laidback, largely unemotional stand up comedian, independent artist & eminent latino from Cleveland, OH now residing in Los Angeles. Ramon resonates a low-fi swag with the finest taste in jokes, juices & dope experiences one can have while immaculately navigating in, out & around financial & emotional poverty as an ambiguously brown man in America.

Initially making a name for himself by building up the Cleveland comedy scene through ACCIDENTAL COMEDY productions while traveling around the country to cities he couldn't afford to live in like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles & more, Ramon eventually started garnering respect around the country for his comedic chops & sandwich acumen, being recognized by COMEDY CENTRAL as a COMIC TO WATCH in 2015 and by most bodega bois across the country.

Rivas made his television debut in 2016, when he was one of 17 artists selected to record THE HALF HOUR with COMEDY CENTRAL. An outlier from the middle of the country, living with divorced parents without a manager or an agent getting that sort of opportunity gave the streets hope. He flew his parents, sister and her 3 kids down to New Orleans for the taping. it was the first time the kids had ever been on a plane. The lead up to recording the special was captured in a 10 part GENTLE HUSTLE docs-series.

Ramon’s stand up was also featured on season 2 of THE GUEST LIST on NBC Seeso (RIP) and his episode of HBO's ENTRE NOS THE SERIES is available for streaming on HBO On Demand, HBOGo & HBONow.

Rivas also has a burgeoning career sounding like he just woke up from a nap on TV shows, with appearances as a contestant on @MIDNIGHT twice, as a cannabis shaman on numerous segments on VICELAND & began acting seriously on S4E3 of BROAD CITY and followed that up with an appearance on S2E7 of HBO's CRASHING.

YA BOI EARNED ALL THEM LOGOS!

Ramon has been a guest on numerous podcasts like:

Ramon's positive vibes and chill comedic momentum earned him coveted spots as a performer in some of the world's most prestigious festivals including

  • Just For Laughs Chicago (2012)

  • San Francisco SketchFest (2014, 2017, 2018)

  • Chicago Comedy Exposition (2014)

  • Gilda's Laughfest (2014, 2016)

  • NBCUniversal & Second City Breakout Comedy Fest (2015, 2017)

  • New York Comedy Festival (2015)

  • RiotLA (2016)

  • HIGH PLAINS COMEDY FEST (2017)

  • NBC Stand Up's (Semi-Finalist 2017)

  • Just For Laughs Montreal (2017)

  • SXSW (2018)

  • Edinburgh Fringe Fest (2018)

Before any of those, he founded his own festival, ACCIDENTAL COMEDY FEST in 2011. The festival has grown to be one of the countries best kept secrets, and has started to garner industry attendees & draw visitors to Cleveland from other states. The fest has taken up residence at HILARIITES 4th STREET THEATER and continues to develop into one of the countries premiere comedic events.

As the founder of the Accidental Comedy Fest (Est 2011) and curator of Accidental Comedy Club (Est. 2014), Ramon brought indie, DIY comedy shows to a new generation of Cleveland artists & audiences by producing open mics, showcases, and an annual comedy festival featuring emerging local & regional talent paired with top, national headlining acts like Hannibal Buress, Kyle Kinane, and The Lucas Brothers at some of the best venues the greater Cleveland area has to offer. That work is continued by the current members of Accidental Comedy John Bruton, Jimmie Graham, Mary Santora, Josh Morrow & Cody Cooper. His work and the overall growth of the Cleveland scene was featured in the documentary film MAKE FUN (2013) available now to stream on AMAZON PRIME.

ACCIDENTAL was named BEST COMEDY VENUE by Cleveland Scene Magazine in 2016, even though the group has no physical home. So they had to add (SERIES) in parenthesis. It's some real pied-piper shit, which is dope.

Ramon now lives in Los Angeles, returning home frequently to feel happiness. ACCIDENTAL COMEDY functions year round, helmed by the next generation of Cleveland's comedic ambassadors.  You can catch Ramon performing in the greater Los Angeles area regularly, touring the country or highly chatting with people in these streets or highly eating snacks on COOKING ON HIGH on Netflix.

Rivas is a refreshingly honest voice in this field

I’ve been doing this for 22+ years so it’s nice to see a comic that I don’t already know but find so funny, it reminds me why I still do this.

Here are some nice things people said about RAMON in the press:

ONE OF 10 BEST ACTS AT MONTREAL JUST FOR LAUGHS 2017 (Paste Magazine) and he wasn't even invited

“Rivas is as immediately likable as Funches, and shares a similar outlook on life. He has the kind of delivery that makes almost everything he says funny—it’s laidback and largely unemotional, but finds the right pitch to emphasize his specific beats. It’s less monotone than microtonal. He’s funny”

CLEVELAND'S RICH COMEDY HISTORY (The Interrobang)

his role in Cleveland comedy goes way beyond either of those two descriptions.  He is the latest in a short list of dedicated comedy personalities to take on the unofficial role of keeping the comedy scene vibrant in Cleveland“

ACCIDENTAL COMEDY PROVES CLEVELAND IS NO JOKE (Paste Magazine)

“Accidental is becoming a festival of note outside the 216 area code, as the now-LA-based Rivas’s burgeoning career and expanding industry connections have lured big names onto the schedule.”

THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED: THE UPSIDE OF DIY TOURING FOR UNSIGNED ARTISTS (Vulture)

“Even after five years of emcee work at a local club, road gigs were still unattainable. Instead Rivas turned his focus to self-producing shows for his Accidental Comedy brand, before taking trips interstate to do spots on indie shows.”

HOW RAMON RIVAS II REPS CLEVELAND (Vulture)

“Rivas is DIY comedy incarnate and an interesting model for any working comedian not residing in an industry-heavy city”

WORKING HARD AT BEING FUNNY (Ideastream/NPR)

“That's rung true for Lorain native Ramon Rivas II.  He landed his first cable TV special last year but it's taken him years to scrape together any kind of living as a professional comedian. “
